Howdy!

Howdy!

Introduction

"Perfection is not attainable, but when we chase it.......we can catch excellence"
            - Vince Lombardi

Here I am, documenting my journey as I transition from an obese, old man into a physically fit, young man.

The last time I was this dedicated into losing weight was 10 years ago when I weighed about 240 lbs.

Back then, I succeeded in losing about 40 lbs and my final weight hovered around 200 lbs; I tried losing more weight, but I had no further success until I gave up.

Since then, life happened and I gained back those forty pounds and much more.

I currently weigh about 260 lbs and after a physical checkup in which I had an elevated blood pressure (bordering on pre-hypertension), my doctor advised me to lose weight.

My Goals

I have primary and secondary weight-loss goals.

Primary Goals

My primary weight loss goals are simple:

  • Reduce my body weight to 187 lbs.
  • Reduce my body fat percentage to 10% and reveal my abs

Secondary Goals

My secondary weight loss goals are based on interests I've had for a while:

Calisthenics Goals

  • Be fit and able to complete 10 strict pull-ups
  • Be fit and able to complete at least 1 muscle up

Gymnastics Goals

  • Be fit enough to perform side and front leg splits
  • Be fit enough to perform a backflip

Flexibility & Mobility Goals

  • Be able to perform a sitting pancake
  • Be able to hold a 30-second Crow's pose
  • Be able to hold a 30-second backbend (aka wheel pose)
  • Be able to hold a 30-second handstand (without wall support)
  • Be able to complete a press-to-handstand

Swimming Goals

  • Learn to front-float
  • Learn to back-float
  • Learn to swim freestyle
  • Learn to tread water for at least 1 minute
  • Receive a lifeguard certification (not sure how realistic this is, but it's worth dreaming).

Blog Purpose

I've setup this blog as a digital diary to document my journey as I accomplish these goals.......or until I get tired of them and give up.

Conclusion

There you have it!
